What is your name?
Where are you from?
I was born on the east coast, moved to 3 places in the mid-west, then came to Oregon all before I turned 12 years of age. After I graduated from High School the thought of moving away from the Pacific NW never entered my mind.
What is your profession?
I am a Systems Analyst for the Beaverton School District in the Information and Technology Department.
Describe your family?
First off is my wife Ellen. I am very lucky to have her in my life, every day. She makes every day a good day! I have two grown children that are both married and each, have one child. I am Papa to two grandsons. My brother lives in Portland, my sister lives in Seattle, and my mom lives in Vancouver. We are a very close and supportive family. Again, I am so lucky to have a family that loves being around each other.
What obstacle(s) have you found most challenging in your life?
This is a hard question for me to answer. I have always had supportive people in my professional and personal life that have helped me achieve my goals and objectives. I always try to be positive and surround myself with positive thinking friends. Maybe I need to up the ante and find harder challenges.
How did you discover SWEAT360?
My niece Angie is one of the original members of Sweat360. I would listen to her describe how Sweat360 was different then the regular gyms but my mind kept saying, “Don’t join a gym – you will pay a monthly fee and not go”. Then in the fall of 2011, Ellen informed me that she was going to give Sweat360 a try. Listening to Ellen and Angie talk about Sweat360 made me change my mind. And I was in signing up. Now, I wish I would have started when Angie started!
What is your favorite class at SWEAT360?
My favorite class is High Def. Going on a regular schedule, I feel that I am working different muscle groups. Core360 has also been fun and has exposed many areas that I need to work on like balance and flexibility. Ride360 class is great for working on my endurance and yoga is a great winter class.
What did SWEAT360 provide for you short term?
It didn’t take long for my body fat to start turning to muscle. It took me a few months, but I started to understand that I needed to change what I was eating. Eating the right foods and going to Sweat360 on a regular basis was going to improve my general health. I enjoy the fact that each workout seems like a new adventure. Most of all, Sweat360 has great instructors and are masters at helping me correct my form.
What did SWEAT360 provide for you long term?
In the 2 years that I have been coming to Sweat360, I have improved my overall health, reduced my body fat, and increased my strength. This has opened new doors or doors that I though had closed years ago. I have turned back the clock 25 years. Running is one thing that I have enjoyed for many years and Sweat360 has a great group of runners. The one thing that I don’t like is running in the rain, but I will if I have a race scheduled. My goal is to run a half marathon in 2014.
I am having a hard time getting my head around the thought that I have started Cyclocross racing. After I got in my first Cyclocross race this last month, I was driving home thinking of all the things I could do to improve my next race. At that point I realized that I was hooked on a new activity. Sweat360 has a great Cyclocross team that definitely knows cycling.
I have spent many years of my life trying to improve my overall health and coming to Sweat360 is like hitting the ball out of the ballpark. It changed everything. Thank you Sweat360 athletes for all your support. You are a great group.
