Ryan Godfrey

Portland, Oregon

What is your profession?

Manager at Starbucks

Describe your family? (i.e. husband, wife, kids, siblings, mom dad, etc. )

I am married to Denise, my wonderful wife of almost seven years. And we have a 20-month old son, Matthew, who keeps us pretty busy.

What obstacle(s) have you found most challenging in your life?

I was told I would not graduate from High School I was told I would not live to be 21

I was told I would never drive I was told I would probably never be able to marry or to have children I was told I would not be able to hold down a job I was told I am not supposed to be athletic

When I was eight years old I found out that I had a brain tumor. Having brain surgery and then having the tumors come back again and again, having eight surgeries total. Having the left side of my body paralyzed. Being told I would never walk, or do anything on my own.

I graduated high school I am 32 I have a driver license and I drive I am married and have a son I have had multiple jobs I run, jump, lift, throw and prove the doctors wrong…every day!6. How did you discover SWEAT360?

My sister-in-law Dawn introduced me to Sweat360’s running group. Then she talked me into trying a class or two. I tried the classes out a few times and thought this is something I can do, (as sore as my arms were after my first workout. It was a good sore)

What is your favorite class at SWEAT360?

I would have to say High Def but I also enjoy Blast and Yoga

What keeps you motivated and inspired?

Discovering my limits and how far I can push myself and finding I could do even more than I thought I was capable of. The encouragement of everyone at SWEAT360. Robert and Kili do a great job of pushing me to do that little bit extra, knowing that I can do it. When I first arrived I could barely run a mile. I can now run a half marathon. It has been quite the journey to get there but I know I could not have done it alone.

Describe your perfect day?

Waking up and being able to just spend time with my family, not having anything really planned out. Being able to go to the gym and get a good workout.

What did SWEAT360 provide for you short term?

An introduction to fitness. I feel healthier. I am healthier.

What did SWEAT360 provide for you long term?

I learned how to change! I have found that I can do more than I think I can, whether it be moving weights or just moving in my body. I found some really good Friendships.

What is your life mantra? (i.e. Live. Laugh. Love. Etc.)

Make your life a story worth telling.
